75: The Dalek Syndrome (Death to the Daleks)

Syndrome was a pretty good villain. Oh wait we’re talking Daleks.

This week Kiyan and Dylan begin the end of the beginning eras of Doctor Who. If that makes sense. Well basically they’re coming to the end of the Third Doctor’s era, and it’s pretty clearly running down. Terrance Dicks, Barry Letts, and Jon Pertwee have all decided by this time to leave the show at the end of the season. The serial that has apparently so blatantly signposted this end of an era is Death to the Daleks, written by Terry Nation and aired in February and March of 1974.

Yeah, who thinks a super cut episode is a good idea?

This super episode is a super cut of Episodes 19, 21, and 22, which correspond to Mission to the Unknown and The Daleks’ Master Plan parts 1 and 2. Basically all 3 episodes have been condensed down into 1. Both serials were written by Terry Nation, and Mission to the Unknown was aired on Oct 9th, 1965, and The Daleks’ Master Plan was aired from November 1965 through January of 1966.

19: The Writers Didn’t Know What They Were Doing (Mission to the Unknown)

Tangents are fun or something like that.

Kiyan and Dylan watched the only serial not to star the Doctor or any of his companions. It was also the only one episode serial in the classic series. As a result, Kiyan and Dylan go on a large Dalek timeline tangent in the middle of explaining the episode. Misison to the Unknown was written by Terry Nation and was aired on the 9th of October 1965.

Better watch out, the opinion police are coming!

Continuing and then abruptly ending our reboot of season 1 of Doctor Who, is the second story of the seasons. We only ever intended to do these two, since we figured, who the bloody hell wants to listen to an episode about Edge of Destruction anyway? If anything, you’ll listen to An Unearthly Child (because it’s the start) and The Daleks (because… it’s the daleks?) and then give up. So here it is, The Daleks, written by Terry Nation and aired in December 1963 through Freburary 1964.
