TARDIS

243: Elon Musk’s New “Innovation” (Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS)

How many things has Elon invented now?

Trust Your Doctor is a complex beast. We record in an office so sparse and huge it’s comparable to the TARDIS itself. We even have a whole room just singularly dedicated to cotton candy. Like. It’s just walls and walls of cotton candy machines. That’s all that’s in there. This is a 100% true fact. It’s Journey to the Center of the TARDIS, written by Steve Thompson and aired on April 20, 2013.

Show-notes:

0:37 The Rock was actually in the sequel to the 2008 Journey to the center of the Earth, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
1:19 Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge: “No [I haven’t seen it]. But I have seen the house it bought for my mum. It’s fantastic.”
1:49 Check out our discussion of Iron Man on our other podcast Triple Play.
14:09 Challenger was the one in 1986 that blew up when it took off. Columbia was the one that blew up when it was coming back in 2003.
25:22 Not gonna link the 2018 Slender man trailer again. That thing gave me nightmares last week. Instead have this harmless wikipedia link.
33:49 Free Solo is a movie about a guy who climbs mountains without equipment.
40:43 Here’s the documentary from 1986.
47:10 Young Goodman Brown.

223: The Many Personalities of John Nathan-Turner (The Doctor’s Wife) Ft. Argy

I have more questions than answers right now.

This week we’re joined for our first crossover of the reboot. I think. I’m pretty sure. I’d check but I’m sure enough that  I’m not going to. Just trust me on this one, I’m really certain of it. It’s The Doctor’s Wife, written by Neil Gaiman and aired on May 14, 2011.

Show-notes:

0:33 Argy also joined us on Zenith, our Blake’s 7 podcast.
3:33 One of Neil Gaimain’s first huge success was Sandman. He has also written books like American Gods, The Graveyard Book, Coraline, and Good Omens with Terry Pratchett.
15:14 The Goodies and Space 1999 are British tv shows.
21:01 Red Dwarf is yet another British tv show that people have also recommended to us.
33:08 Neither I nor Dylan could find the Day of the Doctor featurette, but I did find this completely unrelated article from the Winnipeg Sun about a doctor who makes house calls on a motorcycle.
58:41 Michael Pickwoad did all of Peter Capaldi’s Tardis interiors and Matt Smith’s second one.
1:02:53 We reached out to Neil Gaiman on Twitter and he said he didn’t know about Nineveh.
1:10:31 The entire brutal conversation between Pip and Jane Baker and Chris Chibnall.
1:19:02 Contact is a 1997 movie starring Jodie Foster and directed by Robert Zemeckis.

215: Very Creative Deaths (Amy’s Choice)

They weren’t important anyway.

Weirdly enough, as I’m writing this, I just woke up from a dream about Blake’s 7. Which is weird because I’ve never dreamt about Doctor Who even though I’ve been watching it forever. Really disconcerting actually. Weird. It’s Amy’s Choice, written by Toby Whithouse and aired on May 15, 2010.

Show-notes:

4:02 Sophie’s Choice is a 1979 book by William Stryton.
6:03 Probably The Confessions of Nat Turner.
9:07 The Valeyard was supposedly from between the Doctor’s twelfth and final incarnation. The novelization says that he’s somewhere between the twelfth and thirteenth incarnation. I guess all of this isn’t true anymore or just not considered in the modern show.
12:29 Stetson is a hat brand with a really interesting history.
14:42 We discussed bottle episodes when we discussed Sarcophagus on Zenith, our Blake’s 7 podcast.
20:57 Gee I wonder why this flopped.

Audio 10: Milking That Hatchet Money (The Anachronauts)

Apparently there are actually 5 Hatchet novels.

This week Trust Your Doctor makes it to the halfway point of the audio drama side-step they did. Which means next week we listen to another first doctor story and then work our way back up again. But this week, it’s The Anachronauts, written by Simon Guerrier and released in January of 2012. The Anachronauts can be purchased for $8 (or your local equivalent) on Big Finish’s website.

Show-notes:

3:33 That audio is called Home Truths if you want to listen to it.
4:01 Monster House a direct-to-dvd Antarctican claymation movie that secretly stars Jean Marsh playing a house that torments its neighbors by playing loud house music.
6:27 STEPPIN ON THE BEACH
11:31 I read Hatchet as a kid. If you’re too lazy to look it up, it’s about a sentient hatchet that goes on hilarious adventures through the Canadian wilderness.
11:40 It’s actually My Side of the Mountain.
12:40 4 sequels, 1 series.
47:56 The Selachian Gambit. Can’t wait to listen to it.
